Using Technology to Support Higher Order of Thinking
Technology opens the world to students by letting them explore there interest. In our classroom we looked at Google Earth. Google Earth gives a student the opportunity to explore the world around them or a place around the world. A great idea of an assignment is have students plan a trip and use Google Earth to create tour of a country. then they can plan there way though a city. Figuring out where they will be sleeping, eating and enjoying themselves while on vacation. This that most students don't think of when planning a trip.
Using technology to Affirm Diversity
When working in different schools you never what your students backgrounds will be. Using technology in the classroom is a great way to support and affirm your students backgrounds. Tools like Google's Language Tool to translate any website to a different language. If you have students who's first language is not English then this sit can help. If you are using print out's from the internet or you doing online line work your students can use this web site to translate the web site in to a more familiar language. This help students bridge a gap between school and culture. Another great tool is web cameras (web-cam). Student ca use a web-cam's to talk to people of different backgrounds. If your teaching a course on World War II then you might be able to set up an interview with your students and a WW II ventral. Both of these technologies do a great job of affirming diversity in your classroom.
Using Technology to Support Students
One way to support students is to use a wiki. A teacher may post classroom information for students to use at home. This tool can also be used for parents or other family members to check up on the class. The teacher can send home information to the parents through the wiki if they subscribe to it. This way teachers can contact their students parent when information needs to get out.
